The unrelenting power of the water will fascinate you, awaken the philosopher in you and wash away the worries of everyday life. Walking through the Rosenlaui Glacier Gorge provides a refreshing experience of nature in a magnificent mountain setting. At first glance, things seem rather more tranquil further up the valley. The Pfannibach stream on the Schwarzwaldalp flows steadily through the water intake of the Schwarzwaldalp Old Sawmill, which is over a century old. The true power of this seemingly calm stream is only revealed inside the sawmill. Driven by the water, the saw makes short work of mighty tree trunks that have withstood every storm for decades, halving them with precision. A visit to the Schwarzwaldalp Old Sawmill promises an experience that is interesting, educational and leaves an indelible impression.

Much has changed since Goethe passed through the picturesque Rosenlauital. But even back then, the gifted poet enjoyed a hearty meal of local produce while travelling through.
