Engstlensee

The jewel of the Alpine lakes at 1835 metres above sea level.

Fishermen and hikers will find a paradisiacal landscape here. What could be better than a leisurely boat trip on the tranquil Engstlensee. Boats can be hired at the hotel reception of the Hotel Engstlenalp.

You can reach Engstlenalp by car via a private road (for a fee) or by bus from Meiringen. The journey is varied and winding. It leads through dense woodland and the Gental, one of the most remote valleys in Central Switzerland. After a tough final section, the view at the top at 1835 metres above sea level extends as far as the Titlis.

Alternatively, you can take the gondola cableway from Meiringen to the Alpen tower - and enjoy the unique mountain panorama and the impressive splendour of the mountain flowers on a hike past the Tannensee. Once you arrive at Engstlenalp, you can lean back in the Engstlenalp bus and relax on the return journey to Innertkirchen/Meiringen. Half-Fare travelcards, GA travelcards, SBB day passes and Junior and Children's Co-travelcards are not valid on the Engstlenalp bus.
