Meringues

Meringues are a dessert that originated in Meiringen and were presumably invented around 1600 by the Italian confectioner Gasparini. As well as the French King Louis XV, the Queen of England also tasted the meringues. Her remark, ‘Oh, it’s like a kiss’, is said to have given rise to the name ‘baiser’.
